The household hazardous waste (HHW) are materials that should not be found in your garbage ; they pose a risk to the safety of people who handle such waste and pollute landfills much more than usual garbage.

Ecocentres are important recuperation centers specialised in handling and disposing of your household hazardous wastes in a more ecologically friendly way. Please inquire about them here.
Please note that this deposit service is for the exclusive use of residents of the Island of Montreal.
Accepted Hazardous Waste at Ecocenters :
- Leftover latex or alkyd paint
Paint can also be returned to the place of purchase, please check with individual retailers for details on disposal policies.
- Used motor oil
- AAA to D alkaline batteries, lithium batteries and rechargeable batteries (note that these must be separated one from the other)
- Cleaning products, acid or basic
- Solvents, including turpentine and Varsol
- Pesticides
- Swimming pool chlorine or other oxidants
- Expired drug products
Drug products may be returned to pharmacies, please check with individual pharmacies for details.
- Adhesive products, epoxy or dyes
- Aerosol products
- Propane cylinders (may also be dropped off at filling stations)
Hazardous Waste that is NOT Accepted:
- Biomedical waste
- Products containing asbestos
- Bottles of compressed gas other than propane
- Explosives
- Ammunition, flares and fireworks
- Contaminated Soil
