A Green Alley is made possible through a group of citizens coming together with the éco-quartier and cooperating with their Borough to undertake the plans. In this way, Green Alleys may be developed and maintained as needed.

Greening an alley provides an improved quality of life for citizens. Through increasing vegetation cover and creating a greater biodiversity, air quality is improved and will also aid in reducing the urban heat island effect.

As citizens involve themselves in these projects, they take back these areas as their own and create safer areas to live, work, and play.
